11" Hi-Hat Controller on Roland TD-4

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 11" Hi-Hat Controller when used with the Roland TD-4.

Setup — 11" Hi-Hat Controller on Roland TD-4

Works

The 11" Hi-Hat Controller is fully supported on your Roland TD-4.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → HH connector on the trigger input cable + 1× TRS → HHC connector on the trigger input cable

Continuous hi-hat control. The TD-4 transmits the actual pedal position over MIDI and supports the FD-8 footswitch as well as the VH-11 V-Hi-Hat.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the HH connector on the trigger input cable.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller pedal to the HHC connector on the trigger input cable.

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > 8 PAD SETTINGS and press [OK].
  2. Navigate to the HH input and set the Pad Type to CY-5 (for a Lemon hi-hat cymbal on a switch pedal) or VH-11 if you have a V-Hi-Hat.
  3. Use HH Pedal Sens to fine-tune foot-close and foot-splash response.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions, including foot splashes.
  2. Calibrate the pedal at its rest position after each power-on for accurate response.
11" Hi-Hat Controller also fits 64 other drum modules — see setup
