Setup — Hi-Hat Controller Sensor on Roland TD-27

Works

Yes — the Hi-Hat Controller Sensor works as a full hi-hat on the Roland TD-27: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: HI-HAT connector → hi-hat pad + Hi-Hat Control connector → hi-hat controller, both on the DB-25 cable snake

Continuous hi-hat control via the cable snake.

Hi-hat setup and troubleshooting guide ›

  2. Plug the Hi-Hat Control connector on the DB-25 cable snake into the hi-hat controller.

Module settings

  1. With the hi-hat completely separated from the motion sensor unit, power on the TD-27, then loosen the clutch screw and let the hi-hat rest naturally on the motion sensor unit.
  2. Press [SYSTEM], select "TRIGGER" and press [ENTER], then select "BANK" and press [ENTER] to open the TRIGGER BANK screen.
  3. Strike the hi-hat (display shows "HH") or use the cursor buttons to select the HI-HAT input.
  4. Use the dial to set the Trig Type to VH11 (VH10 also works — the Reference Manual's worked example covers both).
  5. Set the resting gap by raising or lowering the cymbal on the controller until the hi-hat reads open with your foot off the pedal.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions.
  2. Set the resting gap with the clutch after connecting — a Lemon hi-hat has no offset adjustment screw.
Hi-Hat Controller Sensor also fits 71 other drum modules — see setup
