14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-4

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the Roland TD-4.

Setup — 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-4

Works

Yes — the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works as a full hi-hat on the Roland TD-4: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → HH connector on the trigger input cable + 1× TRS → HHC connector on the trigger input cable

Continuous hi-hat control. The TD-4 transmits the actual pedal position over MIDI and supports the FD-8 footswitch as well as the VH-11 V-Hi-Hat.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the HH connector on the trigger input cable.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller pedal to the HHC connector on the trigger input cable.

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU], choose "8 PAD SETTINGS" with the SEL buttons, and press [OK].
  2. Lightly strike the hi-hat to select the HH input.
  3. Use the SEL buttons to select "Pad Type", then set it with the [-/+] dial to VH-11 for a V-Hi-Hat.
  4. Adjust "HH Pedal Sens" (-5-+5) for foot-close and foot-splash response.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions, including foot splashes.
  2. Calibrate the pedal at its rest position after each power-on for accurate response.
14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 69 other drum modules — see setup
