11" Hi-Hat Controller on Roland TD-02

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 11" Hi-Hat Controller when used with the Roland TD-02.

Setup — 11" Hi-Hat Controller on Roland TD-02

Reduced — switch (open/closed)

The 11" Hi-Hat Controller works on your Roland TD-02 with reduced zones.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake + 1× TRS → HI-HAT CTRL connector on the DB-25 cable snake

The TD-02 accepts the FD-8 pedal on the HI-HAT CTRL input but applies limited hi-hat resolution — open and closed states are distinguished reliably, but splash and fine half-open articulations are not reproduced like higher-end Roland modules.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller pedal to the HI-HAT CTRL connector on the DB-25 cable snake.

Module settings

  1. Set the pedal type to FD-8 in the module settings.

Tips

  1. The TD-02 reliably detects open and closed pedal states; finer articulations are limited by the module's simplified hi-hat engine.
  2. For best results, ensure the pedal is calibrated after connecting.
