Hi-Hat Controller Sensor on Roland TD-02

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the Hi-Hat Controller Sensor when used with the Roland TD-02.

Setup — Hi-Hat Controller Sensor on Roland TD-02

Works

Yes — the Hi-Hat Controller Sensor works as a full hi-hat on the Roland TD-02: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake + 1× TRS → HHC connector on the DB-25 cable snake

Continuous hi-hat control. The TD-02 reads the Lemon hi-hat controller through its VH-10/VH-11 pad type, giving smooth open-to-closed movement plus foot-splash. Set the hi-hat pad type and run the module's VH offset routine so open and closed positions are detected correctly.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller pedal to the HHC connector on the DB-25 cable snake.

Module settings

  1. With the hi-hat completely separated from the motion sensor unit, power on the module.
  2. Loosen the clutch screw and let the hi-hat rest naturally on the motion sensor unit.
  3. Press the [MENU] button, use the [◀] [▶] buttons to select "PAD", and press the [ENTER] button.
  4. Strike the hi-hat to select the pad, use the [◀] [▶] buttons to select "Type", and use the [-] [+] buttons to set it to "VH10" or "VH11".
  5. Use the [◀] [▶] buttons to select "VH Set" and press the [ENTER] button — the offset adjustment screen appears.
  6. If the screen indicates "Turn screw L", turn the offset adjustment screw counter-clockwise; if it indicates "Turn screw R", turn it clockwise. When the value is approximately 80 and "OK!" appears, the adjustment is complete.
  7. If the foot splash triggers unintentionally, select "FootSpSens" and adjust it (-10 to +10) with the [-] [+] buttons.
  8. Press the [DRUM KIT] button to return to the DRUM KIT screen.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions plus foot-splash.
  2. Fasten the clutch screw so the hi-hat opens to the amount you prefer after calibrating the offset.
Hi-Hat Controller Sensor also fits 69 other drum modules — see setup
