12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-02

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the Roland TD-02.

Setup — 12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-02

Works

Yes — the 12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works as a full hi-hat on the Roland TD-02: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → the hi-hat lead + 1× TRS (controller) → the "HHC" lead on the dedicated connection cable

Continuous hi-hat control. The TD-02 reads the Lemon hi-hat controller through its VH11 pad type (VH10 also works), giving smooth open-to-closed movement plus foot-splash. Set the pad type, then set the resting gap at the clutch while the module's VH Set screen reads out — a Lemon hi-hat has no offset adjustment screw.

Cable routing

  1. Plug the included dedicated connection cable's hi-hat lead into the Lemon hi-hat pad and its "HHC" lead into the hi-hat controller. Its other end goes to the module's single TRIGGER INPUT connector — each lead is labeled for its pad, and the manual's instruction is simply to "connect the appropriately labeled cable to each pad".

Module settings

  1. With the hi-hat completely separated from the motion sensor unit, power on the module.
  2. Loosen the clutch screw and let the hi-hat rest naturally on the motion sensor unit.
  3. Press the [MENU] button, use the [◀] [▶] buttons to select "PAD", and press the [ENTER] button.
  4. Strike the hi-hat to select the pad, use the [◀] [▶] buttons to select "Type", and use the [-] [+] buttons to set it to "VH11".
  5. Use the [◀] [▶] buttons to select "VH Set" and press the [ENTER] button — the offset adjustment screen appears.
  6. The screen asks for "Turn screw L" or "Turn screw R" — that screw is part of Roland's own VH hi-hat and a Lemon hi-hat has none. Raise or lower the cymbal on the clutch instead: the reading tracks the resting gap, and the adjustment is complete when it reaches about 80 and "OK!" appears.
  7. If the foot splash triggers unintentionally, select "FootSpSens" and adjust it (-10 to +10) with the [-] [+] buttons.
  8. Press the [DRUM KIT] button to return to the DRUM KIT screen.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions plus foot-splash.
  2. Once the reading is set, fasten the clutch screw so the hi-hat opens to the amount you prefer.
12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 70 other drum modules — see setup
