T550 12" Snare on Yamaha DTX-PRO

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 12" Snare when used with the Yamaha DTX-PRO.

Setup — T550 12" Snare on Yamaha DTX-PRO

Works

Yes — the T550 12" Snare works as a full snare on the Yamaha DTX-PRO: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS → SNARE input (1/4" TRS jack)

Dual-zone snare triggering: head (tip) and rim (ring) respond independently via the single TRS connection. The DTX-PRO's [SNARE] jack supports multi-piezo pads, so a Lemon dual-piezo snare (head piezo + rim piezo) reads both zones once the snare's Pad Type is set to a matching SN entry.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from the snare pad to the SNARE input on the rear panel.

Module settings

  1. Press the [MENU] button, select Trigger, then Pad Type, and strike the snare to select its trigger input (p.9).
  2. Set PadType to the SN entry that matches your snare — the Reference Manual prints XP120/100, XP80 and TP70S/70 (p.37).
  3. Set Gain (1–127) and Sensitivity (1–13) on the same page so soft and hard hits register cleanly (p.38), and raise RejectTime (4ms–500ms) if one stroke produces two notes.
  4. If the rim sounds too quiet or too loud against the head, set RimGain (1–127) and H/R Balance (p.39).

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim from a second piezo on the ring.
  2. Both zones respond independently on the TRS connection (tip = head, ring = rim).
T550 12" Snare also fits 74 other drum modules — see setup
