The Beat Max supports dual-zone snare — head (center piezo) and rim (a second piezo mounted under the head) trigger as separate MIDI notes.

- The Donner Beat Max module has no individual 1/4" pad-trigger jacks. Every pad connects through the drum stand's built-in snake, which terminates in a single multi-pin "Module data base socket" on the module.
- The manual documents no connection point for a standard 1/4" TRS pad: panel item 10 is a "Module data base socket" that carries "signals/lights and other data from the drum pad", is built into the stand, and takes the module itself — not a pad. Check how your kit's own pads terminate at the stand before ordering.
Module settings
- From the main interface, tap EDITOR.
- With CHASE ON (default), strike the snare to select it — or turn CHASE OFF and pick it from the drum drop-down.
- Set Model to D_DP10 (10" dual-zone pad) or D_DP12S (12" pad) to enable head + rim triggering.
- Tune: Pad Sensitivity 1–32 (head strike strength), Rim Sensitivity 1–32 (rim hit strength), Threshold 1–32 (minimum trigger force), Mask Time 1–32 ms (retrigger window), XTalk 0–100 (crosstalk rejection).
- In INSTRUMENT > VOICE, use the FILTERS column to find snare sounds and assign head and rim voices separately.
Tips
- Head hits send MIDI note 38 (Snare center); rim hits send note 37 (sidestick) or 40 (rimshot) depending on technique.
- Curve Type: LINEAR is a smooth velocity curve; LOG is most natural for most players; EXP gives higher velocities at softer strikes.
- On an input that reads head and rim, if the wrong zone plays, tune the module's head/rim settings for this pad's size; values set for a different-size pad may not carry over.
