T550 12" Snare on Roland TD-17

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 12" Snare when used with the Roland TD-17.

Setup — T550 12" Snare on Roland TD-17

Works

Yes — the T550 12" Snare works as a full snare on the Roland TD-17: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: The “SNR” lead on the dedicated connection cable → snare pad

Dual-zone triggering: head (tip) and rim (ring) are read over the one lead and play separate sounds.

Cable routing

  1. Plug the lead labeled “SNR” on the included dedicated connection cable into the snare pad. Its other end is a single screw-down connector that goes into the module's TRIGGER INPUT connector on the bottom — “insert the connector all the way, then turn the knobs to fasten it securely” (TD-17KVX Setup Guide §04).

Module settings

  1. Press [SETUP], turn the dial to select "Pad Settings", then press [ENTER].
  2. Press [F1] (TYPE), then strike the snare to select the SNARE input.
  3. Turn the dial to set Pad Type to PD128 or PD105.
  4. Press [F2] (BASIC), select "Sensitivity", and turn the dial to adjust it.

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim from a second piezo mounted under the head.
  2. On an input that reads head and rim, if the wrong zone plays, tune the module's head/rim settings for this pad's size; values set for a different-size pad may not carry over.
T550 12" Snare also fits 76 other drum modules — see setup
