T550 12" Snare on Roland SPD-SX

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 12" Snare when used with the Roland SPD-SX.

Setup — T550 12" Snare on Roland SPD-SX

Works

Yes — the T550 12" Snare works as a full snare on the Roland SPD-SX: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS → a TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to INPUT MODE HEAD&RIM — head + rim

The SPD-SX is a sampling pad with two rear-panel TRIG IN jacks, and the Specifications name them "TRIG IN jacks (1/2, 3/4)" — each jack carries two numbered trigger inputs on one 1/4" TRS connector (p.71). Set a jack's INPUT MODE to HEAD&RIM and a single TRS cable carries both zones of one pad — head on trigger 1, rim on trigger 2 (p.62). The pad plays whatever waves you assign to that trigger input in the kit. Only two jacks exist, so a 2-zone pad uses up a whole jack.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from the Lemon snare pad to a free TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) on the rear panel.

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > SETUP > TRIG IN and play the snare pad to select its trigger input.
  2. Set INPUT MODE to HEAD&RIM so head and rim are read separately.
  3. Set TRIG1–4 TYPE to a 2-zone pad profile such as PD-125 or PD-105.
  4. Fine-tune PAD SENS, THRESHOLD and VELO CURVE if the default response needs adjusting.
  5. In the KIT PAD screen, assign a snare wave to the trigger's head and a rimshot/sidestick wave to its rim.

Tips

  1. Head triggers on the tip, rim on the ring of the same TRS cable.
  2. Raise XTALK CANCEL if a nearby pad on the same stand triggers the snare unintentionally.
T550 12" Snare also fits 74 other drum modules — see setup
