Setup details by role

Snare pad 2-zone 1× TRS → a TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to INPUT MODE HEAD&RIM — head + rim

The SPD-SX is a sampling pad with two rear-panel TRIG IN jacks, and the Specifications name them "TRIG IN jacks (1/2, 3/4)" — each jack carries two numbered trigger inputs on one 1/4" TRS connector (p.71). Set a jack's INPUT MODE to HEAD&RIM and a single TRS cable carries both zones of one pad — head on trigger 1, rim on trigger 2 (p.62). The pad plays whatever waves you assign to that trigger input in the kit. Only two jacks exist, so a 2-zone pad uses up a whole jack.

Tom pad 2-zone 1× TRS per tom → a TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to INPUT MODE HEAD&RIM — head + rim

Each 2-zone tom uses one of the two TRIG IN jacks in HEAD&RIM mode (head + rim over a single TRS cable). With only two jacks you can connect at most two 2-zone pads directly. A jack can instead run in TRIGx2 mode, where a Y-cable (stereo 1/4" plug to two 1/4" plugs) splits it into its two numbered triggers as separate single-zone inputs — Roland notes that "if you connect two external pads to one TRIG IN jack, only head shots will be available" (p.27).

Kick pad Works 1× TS → a TRIG IN jack (single-zone; TS grounds the jack's second trigger)

Single-zone kick trigger. Every TRIG IN jack carries two numbered trigger inputs on one TRS connector (Specifications, p.71), so the ring is always a live trigger — the rim of this pad in HEAD&RIM mode, or a second pad in TRIGx2 mode (p.62). Use a mono TS cable: its sleeve grounds that second trigger, where a TRS cable would leave it open.

2-zone crash 2-zone 1× TRS → a TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to INPUT MODE HEAD&RIM — bow + edge

Dual-zone crash triggering: bow and edge read independently over one TRS cable when the jack is set to HEAD&RIM. The SPD-SX supports Roland CY-series 2-zone cymbals (e.g. CY-8, CY-12C, CY-14C). Each 2-zone cymbal occupies one of the two TRIG IN jacks.

3-zone ride 2-zone 1× TRS: Ride 1 (bow/edge) → a TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to INPUT MODE HEAD&RIM

Plug the Lemon ride's Ride 1 cable into a TRIG IN jack for bow + edge — no cymbal modification. The SPD-SX's TRIG IN jacks are 2-zone (head + rim), so the ride drives two of its three zones here.
