12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-1

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the Roland TD-1.

Setup — 12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-1

Use as switch hi-hat

The 12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works on the Roland TD-1 as a switch hi-hat: open/closed only.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake + 1× TRS → HHC connector on the DB-25 cable snake

Switch-type hi-hat pedal control. The TD-1 distinguishes open, closed, and foot-closed states only — fine half-open and splash articulations are not reproduced like higher-tier Roland modules.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller pedal to the HHC connector on the DB-25 cable snake.

Module settings

  1. Press the [Select] button to select Drums mode, then long-press the [Metronome] button so the mode lamp blinks (Making Detailed Settings).
  2. Press the [Select] button to blink the Drums mode lamp (Adjust the Pad Sensitivity).
  3. Play the hi-hat pad, then use the [-] [+] buttons to adjust its sensitivity.
  4. Press the [Metronome] button to complete the setting.

Tips

  1. The TD-1 reliably detects open and closed pedal states; finer articulations are limited by the module's simplified hi-hat engine.
  2. For best results, ensure the pedal is set to its rest position when powering on the module.
12" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 69 other drum modules — see setup
