Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the Roland TD-9.

Setup — 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland TD-9

Works

Yes — the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works as a full hi-hat on the Roland TD-9: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → “HH” lead on the DB-25 cable snake + 1× TRS (controller) → “HHC” lead on the DB-25 cable snake

Continuous hi-hat control via the cable snake.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the “HH” lead on the DB-25 cable snake.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller to the “HHC” lead on the DB-25 cable snake.

Module settings

  1. Press [SETUP], then [F1] (TRIG), then [F1] (TYPE).
  2. Use [CURSOR] to move the cursor to "H" (HI-HAT).
  3. Set "Trig Type" to VH11 with [+/-].
  4. Press [F2] (BASIC) to fine-tune "Sensitivity" (1-32) and "Threshold" (0-31).
  5. Press [F3] (ADVNCD) then [F3] (HI-HAT) and confirm "Hi-Hat Type" reads VH11 — selecting the VH11 trigger type normally sets it for you.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions.
  2. Set the resting gap with the clutch after connecting — a Lemon hi-hat has no offset adjustment screw.
14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 70 other drum modules — see setup
