14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland V31

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the Roland V31.

Setup — 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on Roland V31

Works

Yes — the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works as a full hi-hat on the Roland V31: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS → HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake + 1× TRS (controller) → Hi-Hat Control connector on the DB-25 cable snake

Continuous hi-hat control via the cable snake.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat pad to the HI-HAT connector on the DB-25 cable snake.
  2. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the hi-hat controller to the Hi-Hat Control connector on the DB-25 cable snake.

Module settings

  1. With the hi-hat completely separated from the motion sensor unit, turn on the V-31, then loosen the clutch screw so the hi-hat rests naturally on the motion sensor unit.
  2. Press the [MENU] button.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to select "SYSTEM" -> "TRIGGER", then press [ENTER].
  4. Press the [F4] (HI-HAT) button to open the TRIGGER - HI-HAT screen.
  5. Use the dial to set the Trig Type to VH-11 (or VH-10).
  6. While reading the on-screen meter, raise or lower the cymbal on the clutch until the indicator centres — a Lemon hi-hat has no offset adjustment screw, so the clutch is the control.
  7. Tighten the clutch screw at a position where the hi-hat sways naturally when struck.

Tips

  1. Continuous pedal control provides smooth open-to-closed transitions.
14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 70 other drum modules — see setup
