14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on NUX DM-8

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the NUX DM-8.

Setup — 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on NUX DM-8

Works

Yes — the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works as a full hi-hat on the NUX DM-8: variable pedal position.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS (pad) → Hi-Hat branch + 1× TRS (pedal) → Hi-hat Control branch on the multi-pin trigger snake

Continuous hi-hat. The DM-8 maps explicit open, half-open, and closed states (its MIDI map includes half-open notes) and the HI-HAT SET menu reads variable pedal position via HH OPEN VAL / HH CLOSE VAL. NUX's variable hi-hat sensing isn't documented as Roland VH/FD-compatible, so calibrate the pedal range after connecting.

Cable routing

  1. Plug the Lemon hi-hat pad into the HI-HAT branch of the trigger snake.
  2. Plug the hi-hat control pedal into the Hi-hat Control branch of the trigger snake.

Module settings

  1. Press MENU > TRIGGER for the pad's PAD TYPE / SENSITIVITY, then open MENU > HI-HAT SET for the pedal.
  2. Set HH VOLUME (the manual's screen capture labels this same parameter HH SENSITIVITY), and adjust HH OPEN VAL / HH CLOSE VAL so the open and closed points match your pedal's travel.

Tips

  1. If half-open feels off, widen or narrow the gap between HH OPEN VAL and HH CLOSE VAL.
  2. Edge and choke work on the pad as on the other cymbals.
14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 69 other drum modules — see setup
