14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on ATV EXS-3

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals when used with the ATV EXS-3.

Setup — 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals on ATV EXS-3

Use with the kit's pedal controller

The 14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals works on the ATV EXS-3 as a continuous hi-hat driven by the kit's own pedal controller: open, half-open and closed positions.

Continuous Open Closed

Wiring: 1× TRS Lemon pad → HH plug; the ATV hi-hat's optical controller stays on the CTL plug (25-pin D-sub multi-trigger cable to 1/4" TRS)

The stock hi-hat is an AC-powered optical controller with its own reflection plate and power switch (pp.3, 8, 14, 34), retained for continuous pedal control while the Lemon hi-hat pad rides on top as the striking surface. The manual documents no third-party controller support and no open/close pedal calibration, and instructs "please use the default setting" for Pad Model (p.26), so the Lemon bottom-plate controller is not used here.

Cable routing

  1. Connect the Lemon hi-hat pad to the HH plug on the multi-trigger cable.
  2. Keep the ATV optical hi-hat controller on the CTL plug and switch its power on (p.34).

Module settings

  1. Leave Pad Model for the hi-hat at the default setting (p.26).
  2. Adjust Pedal HH Sens for foot-close/foot-splash volume and HH Close Adjust for the closed position (p.26).

Tips

  1. Continuous open, half-open and closed response comes from the retained ATV optical controller; the Lemon pad supplies the trigger.
  2. There is no open/closed end-point calibration on this module — use HH Close Adjust to tune the closed point.
14" 2-Piece Electronic Hi-Hat Cymbals also fits 69 other drum modules — see setup
