15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland TD-4

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride when used with the Roland TD-4.

Setup — 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland TD-4

Works

The 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride is fully supported on your Roland TD-4.

Bow Edge

Wiring: 1× TRS → CR1 connector on the trigger input cable (CR2 also available for a second 2-zone crash, unless used as RIDE BELL)

Dual-zone crash triggering: bow (tip) and edge (ring) respond independently via the single TRS connection. Choke works by grabbing the cymbal edge. The TD-4 has two 2-zone crash inputs (CR1 and CR2). If you are running a 3-zone ride, the CR2 cable is repurposed as RIDE BELL and only CR1 remains available for a crash.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a ¼″ TRS cable from the cymbal to the CR1 connector on the trigger input cable.
  2. For a second crash, connect to the CR2 connector — but only if CR2 is not being used as RIDE BELL (see 3-zone ride below).

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > 8 PAD SETTINGS and press [OK].
  2. Strike the cymbal or use SEL to navigate to the CR1 or CR2 input.
  3. Set the Pad Type to CY-5, CY-8, or CY-14C depending on your cymbal size.
  4. Confirm Crash 2 Usage is set to CRASH 2 (not RIDE BELL) under PAD SETTINGS if you want CR2 to act as a second crash.

Tips

  1. Bow and edge zones respond independently.
  2. Choke works by grabbing the cymbal edge.
  3. If you want full 3-zone ride and a second crash, you'll have to choose one — the CR2 cable can only do one job at a time.
15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride also fits 64 other drum modules — see setup
