Yes — the 18" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride works as a full 3-zone ride on the Roland TD-4: bow + bell + edge.

Bell Bow Edge

Wiring: 1× TRS from the cymbal's Ride 1 output → RD connector on the trigger input cable + 1× TRS from the cymbal's Ride 2 output → CR2 connector, with Crash 2 Usage set to RIDE BELL

Full 3-zone ride is supported on the TD-4 by repurposing the CR2 trigger cable as RIDE BELL. The cymbal's Ride 1 output carries bow + edge to the RD input; the Ride 2 output carries bell to the CR2 input. This trades away the second crash slot in exchange for true 3-zone ride playing.

Cable routing

  1. Connect the cymbal's Ride 1 output (bow + edge) to the RD input on the trigger input cable.
  2. Connect the cymbal's Ride 2 output (bow/bell) to the CR2 input on the trigger input cable.

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU], choose "8 PAD SETTINGS" with the SEL buttons, and press [OK].
  2. Strike the ride to select the RD input.
  3. Use the SEL buttons to select "Pad Type", then set it with the [-/+] dial to CY-12R/C or CY-15R.
  4. Select "Crash 2 Usage" and set it to RIDE BELL so the CR2 cable is read as the ride bell.
  5. In the kit, choose a ride instrument whose name ends in "/B" - only "/B" instruments switch to the bell sound.

Tips

  1. True 3-zone playing (bow, edge, bell) is available simultaneously with this wiring.
  2. While CR2 is set to RIDE BELL you cannot use it as a second crash — pick whichever matters more to your setup.
  3. If you later want a second crash back, change Crash 2 Usage to CRASH 2 and connect a crash cymbal to the CR2 input instead.
  4. If the edge and bell sounds come out swapped, the two cables are reversed — swap them at the cymbal ends.
