15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland SPD-SX

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride when used with the Roland SPD-SX.

Setup — 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland SPD-SX

Use as 2-zone ride

The 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride works on your Roland SPD-SX with reduced zones.

Bell Bow Edge

Wiring: 1× TRS from the ride's bow+bell output (post-rewire) → a TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to INPUT MODE HEAD&RIM — bow + bell

The SPD-SX's TRIG IN jacks are 2-zone (head + rim) — there is no 3-zone ride mode, so the Lemon 3-zone ride drives two of its three zones here. A one-time, reversible internal jumper move (~10 min) routes bow + bell to a single TRS cable for the HEAD&RIM input; the edge zone is not read. The ride then uses one of the two TRIG IN jacks.

Rewire guide ›

Cable routing

  1. Rewire the ride — move the internal red/black jumper so bow + bell share one output (see the rewire guide).
  2. Connect a single 1/4" TRS cable from that output to a free TRIG IN jack (1/2 or 3/4) set to HEAD&RIM.

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > SETUP > TRIG IN, select the trigger input and set INPUT MODE to HEAD&RIM.
  2. Set TRIG TYPE to a 2-zone ride/crash profile such as CY-13R.
  3. In the KIT PAD screen, assign a ride-bow wave to the head and a ride-bell wave to the rim.

Tips

  1. Bow plays on the head zone, bell on the rim zone.
  2. The edge/crash zone of a 3-zone ride is not available on the SPD-SX's 2-zone inputs.
15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride also fits 70 other drum modules — see setup
