15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland Octapad SPD-30

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride when used with the Roland Octapad SPD-30.

Setup — 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland Octapad SPD-30

Use as 2-zone ride

The 15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride works on your Roland Octapad SPD-30 with reduced zones.

Bell Bow Edge

Wiring: 1× TRS from the ride's bow+bell output (post-rewire) → an EXTERNAL TRIGGER INPUT jack with a CY Pad Type — bow + bell

The SPD-30's external inputs read two sounds per pad (Inst Head + Inst Rim) — there is no 3-zone ride mode, so the Lemon 3-zone ride drives two of its three zones here. A one-time, reversible internal jumper move (~10 min) routes bow + bell to a single TRS cable for the dual-trigger input; the edge zone is not read.

Rewire guide ›

Cable routing

  1. Rewire the ride — move the internal red/black jumper so bow + bell share one output (see the rewire guide).
  2. Connect a single 1/4" TRS cable from that output to a free EXTERNAL TRIGGER INPUT jack (4/RIDE is the natural choice).

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > PAD > EXTERNAL, hit the ride to select its input, and set Pad Type to a CY profile such as CY-12R/C.
  2. In INST, assign a ride-bow wave to Inst Head and a ride-bell wave to Inst Rim.

Tips

  1. Bow plays on the head zone, bell on the rim zone.
  2. The edge/crash zone of a 3-zone ride is not read on the SPD-30's two-sound external inputs.
15" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride also fits 70 other drum modules — see setup
