T550 8" High Tom on Roland SPD-SX PRO

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 8" High Tom when used with the Roland SPD-SX PRO.

Setup — T550 8" High Tom on Roland SPD-SX PRO

Works

Yes — the T550 8" High Tom works as a full tom on the Roland SPD-SX PRO: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS per tom → a TRIGGER IN jack (1/2, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8) set to HEAD&RIM — head + rim

Each tom uses one of the four TRIGGER IN jacks in HEAD&RIM mode (head + rim over a single TRS cable). With four jacks you can connect up to four 2-zone pads directly; single-zone pads can share a jack in TRIGx2 mode to reach eight triggers total — Roland: "When connecting two external pads to a single TRIGGER IN jack, set the 'Input Mode' to 'TRIG x 2'" (p.35), and a Y cable (PCS-31L) is listed among the unit's options (p.151).

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from each Lemon tom pad to a free TRIGGER IN jack (1/2, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8).

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > SYSTEM > PAD/TRIG IN, then [F1] (PARAM).
  2. Play each tom to select its trigger input and set Input Mode to HEAD&RIM.
  3. Set Trig Type to a tom profile such as PD-85 or PD-105.
  4. Adjust Sensitivity, Threshold and Curve if needed.
  5. In KIT EDIT1, assign tom head and rim waves to each trigger input.

Tips

  1. Only four physical jacks exist — plan which pads get a dedicated HEAD&RIM jack versus a shared TRIGx2 jack.
  2. Raise XTalk Cancel between toms mounted on the same stand.
T550 8" High Tom also fits 74 other drum modules — see setup
