T550 8" High Tom on Roland Octapad SPD-30

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 8" High Tom when used with the Roland Octapad SPD-30.

Setup — T550 8" High Tom on Roland Octapad SPD-30

Works

Yes — the T550 8" High Tom works as a full tom on the Roland Octapad SPD-30: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS per tom → an EXTERNAL TRIGGER INPUT jack with a 2-zone Pad Type — head + rim

Each tom uses one of the four EXTERNAL TRIGGER INPUT jacks with a dual-trigger Pad Type (head + rim over one TRS cable). Four jacks exist in total, so plan them across your snare, toms, cymbals, ride and hi-hat pad — every external pad shares the same pool of four inputs.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from each Lemon tom pad to a free EXTERNAL TRIGGER INPUT jack (1/KICK, 2/SNARE, 3/HI-HAT or 4/RIDE).

Module settings

  1. Press [MENU] > PAD > EXTERNAL to open the "PAD SETTING-EXTERNAL" screen.
  2. Hit each tom to select its input.
  3. Turn [Knob 1] (SEL) to select "Pad Type", then turn [Knob 3] (–/+) to set a tom profile such as PD-85 or PD-105.
  4. Turn [Knob 1] (SEL) to Sensitivity, Threshold and Velocity Curve and adjust each with [Knob 3] (–/+) if needed.
  5. In [MENU] > INST, assign tom head and rim waves to Inst Head and Inst Rim for each input.

Tips

  1. Only four EXTERNAL TRIGGER INPUT jacks exist — budget them across all the external pads you want to add.
  2. Raise X-Talk Cancel between toms mounted on the same stand.
T550 8" High Tom also fits 74 other drum modules — see setup
