T550 8" High Tom on Roland TD-8

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 8" High Tom when used with the Roland TD-8.

Setup — T550 8" High Tom on Roland TD-8

Works

Yes — the T550 8" High Tom works as a full tom on the Roland TD-8: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS per tom → TOM1, TOM2, TOM3 inputs (1/4" TRS jacks)

Dual-zone tom triggering: head (tip) and rim (ring) are read via the single TRS connection per tom input.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from each tom pad to the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 input on the rear panel.

Module settings

  1. Press [SETUP], then [F1 (TRIG)] — the "TRIGGER BANK" screen appears.
  2. Navigate to the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 input.
  3. Set the trigger type to PD7 or PD9 (the dual-trigger pad settings) depending on your pad size.

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim from a second piezo mounted under the head.
  2. Both zones share the one TRS connection (tip = head, ring = rim).
  3. On an input that reads head and rim, if the wrong zone plays, tune the module's head/rim settings for this pad's size; values set for a different-size pad may not carry over.
T550 8" High Tom also fits 76 other drum modules — see setup
