T550 8" High Tom on Yamaha DTX-PRO

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 8" High Tom when used with the Yamaha DTX-PRO.

Setup — T550 8" High Tom on Yamaha DTX-PRO

Works

Yes — the T550 8" High Tom works as a full tom on the Yamaha DTX-PRO: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS per tom → TOM1, TOM2, TOM3 inputs (1/4" TRS jacks)

Dual-zone tom triggering: head (tip) and rim (ring) respond independently via the single TRS connection. The DTX-PRO's TOM1–TOM3 jacks support multi-piezo pads, so a Lemon dual-piezo tom (head piezo + rim piezo) reads both zones — set each tom's Pad Type to a Multi Piezo type.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from each tom pad to the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 input on the rear panel.

Module settings

  1. After connecting each tom, set the Pad Type parameter (MENU/TRIGGER/Pad Type) to a Multi Piezo type that matches your tom so the head and rim piezos are read as separate zones.
  2. Fine-tune Gain and Sensitivity for even response across each tom — see the DTX-PRO Reference Manual (PDF) for the full trigger parameter list.

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim triggers from the rim piezo on the ring.
  2. Both zones respond independently on the TRS connection (tip = head, ring = rim).
T550 8" High Tom also fits 73 other drum modules — see setup
