T550 8" High Tom on Yamaha DTX-PRO

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 8" High Tom when used with the Yamaha DTX-PRO.

Setup — T550 8" High Tom on Yamaha DTX-PRO

Works

Yes — the T550 8" High Tom works as a full tom on the Yamaha DTX-PRO: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS per tom → TOM1, TOM2, TOM3 inputs (1/4" TRS jacks)

Dual-zone tom triggering: head (tip) and rim (ring) respond independently via the single TRS connection. The DTX-PRO's TOM1–TOM3 jacks support multi-piezo pads, so a Lemon dual-piezo tom (head piezo + rim piezo) reads both zones once each tom's Pad Type is set to a matching TM entry.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from each tom pad to the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 input on the rear panel.

Module settings

  1. Press the [MENU] button, select Trigger, then Pad Type, and strike each tom in turn to select its trigger input (p.9).
  2. The TOM1–TOM3 jacks each carry two trigger inputs, so set MENU/Trigger/Input Mode to paired for Tom1/Pad3, Tom2/Pad5 and Tom3/Pad7 — a dual-piezo tom is read as one pad only in that mode (p.34).
  3. Set PadType to the TM entry that matches your tom — the Reference Manual prints XP120/100, XP80, XP70 and TP70S/70 (p.37).
  4. Set Gain (1–127) and Sensitivity (1–13) on the same page for even response across each tom (p.38).
  5. If a tom's rim sounds too quiet or too loud against its head, set RimGain (1–127) and H/R Balance (p.39).

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim from a second piezo on the ring.
  2. Both zones respond independently on the TRS connection (tip = head, ring = rim).
T550 8" High Tom also fits 74 other drum modules — see setup
