T550 8" High Tom on Yamaha DTX400K

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T550 8" High Tom when used with the Yamaha DTX400K.

Setup — T550 8" High Tom on Yamaha DTX400K

Use as 1-zone tom

Yes — the T550 8" High Tom works on the Yamaha DTX400K as a 1-zone tom: head only.

Head Rim

Wiring: 1× TRS per tom → TOM1, TOM2, TOM3 connectors on the DB-25 cable snake

The tom inputs on the cable snake support dual-zone (head + rim) triggering via center piezo and rim switch.

Cable routing

  1. Connect a 1/4" TRS cable from each tom pad to the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 connector on the DB-25 cable snake.
  2. Additional tom inputs may be available as direct jacks on the rear panel.

Module settings

  1. Hold the [KIT] button and press the [SONG] button to enter Menu Mode.
  2. Press number button [5] to select the Trigger Settings group.
  3. Press number button [5] for the Gain parameter, strike the tom to select it, then set the gain (1-127) with the number buttons.
  4. Press number button [6] for the Minimum Level parameter, strike the tom, then set the minimum level (0-99 %).
  5. If a tom double-triggers or picks up neighbouring pads, press number button [2] for the Crosstalk parameter, strike the tom, and raise its value (0-99).

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim triggers from the rim switch.
  2. Both zones respond independently on the TRS connection (tip = head, ring = rim).
T550 8" High Tom also fits 73 other drum modules — see setup
