Snare pad 2-zone 1× TRS → any TRIGGER IN jack (1/2, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8) set to HEAD&RIM — head + rim
The SPD-SX PRO is a sampling pad with four dual-trigger jacks rather than a labelled snare input. Roland's panel description calls them "TRIGGER IN 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 jacks" (Reference Manual p.10) and the Specifications list "TRIG IN jack x 4 (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8): 1/4-inch TRS phone type" (p.150) — each jack carries two numbered trigger inputs. Set the chosen jack's Input Mode to HEAD&RIM and a single TRS cable carries both zones of one pad — head (tip) and rim (ring). The pad plays whatever waves you assign to that trigger input in the kit.
Tom pad 2-zone 1× TRS per tom → a TRIGGER IN jack (1/2, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8) set to HEAD&RIM — head + rim
Each tom uses one of the four TRIGGER IN jacks in HEAD&RIM mode (head + rim over a single TRS cable). With four jacks you can connect up to four 2-zone pads directly; single-zone pads can share a jack in TRIGx2 mode to reach eight triggers total — Roland: "When connecting two external pads to a single TRIGGER IN jack, set the 'Input Mode' to 'TRIG x 2'" (p.35), and a Y cable (PCS-31L) is listed among the unit's options (p.151).
Kick pad Works 1× TS → a TRIGGER IN jack (single-zone; TS grounds the jack's second trigger)
Single-zone kick trigger. Every TRIGGER IN jack carries two numbered trigger inputs on one TRS connector (Specifications, p.150), so the ring is always a live trigger — the rim of this pad in HEAD&RIM mode, or a second pad in TRIGx2 mode (p.102). Use a mono TS cable: its sleeve grounds that second trigger, where a TRS cable would leave it open.
2-zone crash 2-zone 1× TRS → a TRIGGER IN jack set to HEAD&RIM — bow + edge
Dual-zone crash triggering: bow (tip) and edge (ring) read independently over one TRS cable when the jack is set to HEAD&RIM. The SPD-SX PRO supports Roland CY-series 2-zone cymbals. Each 2-zone cymbal occupies one of the four jacks.
3-zone ride 2-zone 1× TRS: Ride 1 (bow/edge) → a TRIGGER IN jack set to HEAD&RIM
Plug the Lemon ride's Ride 1 cable into a TRIGGER IN jack for bow + edge — no cymbal modification. The SPD-SX PRO's trigger inputs are 2-zone (head + rim), so the ride drives two of its three zones here.
Hi-hat Continuous 1× TRS pad → a TRIGGER IN jack (HEAD&RIM) + 1× TRS (controller) → HH CTRL/EXPRESSION jack
Hi-hat control. The hi-hat pad connects to a TRIGGER IN jack (HEAD&RIM for bow + edge) and the Lemon hi-hat controller connects to the dedicated HH CTRL/EXPRESSION jack, switching the pad between its open and closed hi-hat layers at a settable border position. Supports VH-11/VH-10 and FD-8/FD-9 pedal profiles.
