T950 10"x5" High Tom on Roland V51

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the T950 10"x5" High Tom when used with the Roland V51.

Setup — T950 10"x5" High Tom on Roland V51

Works

Yes — the T950 10"x5" High Tom works as a full tom on the Roland V51: head + rim.

Head Rim

Wiring: TOM1, TOM2, TOM3 connectors on the DB-25 cable snake → one per tom pad

Dual-zone tom triggering: head (tip) and rim (ring) are read over the one lead per tom input.

Cable routing

  1. Plug the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 connector on the DB-25 cable snake into each tom pad.
  2. A fourth tom goes on the rear-panel TRIGGER IN (AUX 1/TOM 4) jack, with a ¼″ TRS cable. That single jack is shared between AUX 1 and TOM 4; the V51 has three further TRIGGER IN jacks (CRASH 2, AUX 2, AUX 3), all 1/4-inch TRS (p. 234).

Module settings

  1. Press the [SETUP] button.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select "TRIGGER", then press [ENTER].
  3. Press the [F1] (BANK) button to open the TRIGGER - BANK screen.
  4. Select the TOM1, TOM2, or TOM3 input (strike the pad or use the cursor buttons).
  5. Use the [-] [+] buttons or the dial to set the trigger type to the model that most closely matches your connected pad (the full trigger-type list is in the module's Data List).
  6. For finer control, press [F3] (BASIC) and adjust the pad's Sensitivity.

Tips

  1. Head triggers from the center piezo, rim from a second piezo mounted under the head.
  2. On an input that reads head and rim, if the wrong zone plays, tune the module's head/rim settings for this pad's size; values set for a different-size pad may not carry over.
T950 10"x5" High Tom also fits 76 other drum modules — see setup
