13" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland TD-1

Wiring, module settings, and tips for the 13" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride when used with the Roland TD-1.

Setup — 13" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride on Roland TD-1

Use as 2-zone ride

The 13" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride works on your Roland TD-1 with reduced zones.

Bell Bow Edge

Wiring: 1× TRS from cymbal Ride 2, post-rewire → RIDE connector on the DB-25 cable snake — bow + bell

Single ride input — bow + bell only, no edge. Needs a one-time, reversible jumper move inside the cymbal (~10 min).

Rewire guide ›

Cable routing

  1. Rewire the cymbal — move the internal red/black jumper from the Ride 1 input to the Ride 2 input.
  2. Connect a single 1/4" TRS cable from the cymbal's Ride 2 output to the RIDE connector on the DB-25 cable snake.

Module settings

  1. The TD-1 has very limited trigger settings — no pad-type selection is exposed for the RIDE input.
  2. The RIDE input reads the TRS cable as 2-zone automatically: the tip (bow piezo) triggers the ride-bow preset sound and the ring (bell piezo, after the cymbal rewire) triggers the ride-bell/edge preset sound from the TD-1's built-in kits.
  3. The TD-1 does not support custom instrument assignment per zone — you get whatever ride sounds are built into the active kit.

Tips

  1. The TD-1 labels the ring-conductor zone as 'edge' internally; after the rewire it will fire on bell hits, playing whatever edge/bell sound the built-in kit assigns to the ride.
  2. Full 3-zone (independent bow + bell + edge) is not available — the rewire trades edge for bell on the single cable.
13" Triple-Zone Crash/Ride also fits 64 other drum modules — see setup
