Lemon dual-zone crashes and splashes have two zones: bow and edge. This guide gets both working on your module and checks each one, so if something isn't right you'll know whether it's the cymbal, the cable or a setting.
Where everything plugs in
The crash has one jack under the cymbal. It carries the bow and edge and needs a stereo (TRS) cable; a mono cable only gives you the bow.
Using a Lemon 3-zone ride as a crash? Use its Ride 1 cable. The ride guide covers the ride's other jack.
Already set up and something's wrong?
Start at the step that matches what you're seeing:
- The edge doesn't play at all: step 1 (your module may not read it), then step 2.
- Edge hits play as bow: step 3.
- Grabbing the edge doesn't choke the sound: step 1 (choke depends on your module), then check the edge in step 4, because choke needs a working edge. If the page says choke works and the edge plays but grabbing still doesn't cut the sound, go to step 5.
- Bow hits play the edge sound and edge hits play the bow: try a different stereo (TRS) cable. Still swapped? Contact us.
- A zone only plays when you hit it hard, or now and then: step 3.
- Still misfires after the settings: step 5.
Step 1 — Check what your module can do
Open your module's page in Support and look at its crash section for the input and settings to use; note them down for steps 2 and 3. Then look for a Things to know before you buy box near the top of that page:
- No box, or no crash entry in it: your module reads both zones, so bow and edge play separately. If the page says choke works, grabbing the edge cuts the sound too. If it doesn't mention choke, we haven't confirmed choke for your module: if the edge plays but grabbing doesn't cut the sound, your module may not support it. Contact us if you'd like us to check.
- Crash is 1-zone: your module plays the crash as one sound. Bow hits will play; the edge and choke won't, whatever the settings.
- No crash input: this module can't use a Lemon crash. Stop here.
Step 2 — Connect it
Plug a stereo (TRS) cable into the crash and connect it to the crash input your module's page names. If your kit's pads plug into a bundle of labelled leads from the module (a snake), plug its crash lead straight into the cymbal instead; your module's page says which lead to use.
Step 3 — Module settings
- Pick the crash preset or pad type your module's page names.
- If your module asks what kind of sensor the edge is, set it to Switch, not Piezo. With Piezo, edge hits play as bow.
- If a zone only plays when you hit it hard, or misses now and then, raise its sensitivity and lower its threshold.
Step 4 — Check each zone
Hit the bow, then the edge, a few times each. If your module's page says choke works, hit the cymbal and then grab the edge.
You should hear each zone play its own sound, once per hit, and the grab cut the sound where your module supports choke. On a 1-zone module you'll only hear the bow.
Step 5 — Still wrong? Find out which part
If a zone or choke still misbehaves after step 3, swap it with another 2-zone crash whose edge works, on a crash input: plug each one into the other's cable and input. No second 2-zone crash? Skip to contact us.
- The problem follows the crash: it's the cymbal. Contact us.
- The problem stays on the input: it's that input's cable or settings. Swap the cable for one you know works, then check the settings again.
Put both cymbals back when you're done.
Still not right?
Email contact@lemonedrums.com with your module's brand and exact model, which zone is wrong and what it does instead, and which input it's plugged into. A short phone video of you hitting each zone usually lets us answer in one reply.
